๐ฟ Welcome to Alaga! This guide walks you through everything the app can do โ from logging your first vital sign to generating a health report for a doctor's visit. Alaga is designed to be simple, so you don't need to be tech-savvy to use it.
โ๏ธ Medical disclaimer: Alaga is a personal health tracking tool and is not intended for medical diagnosis or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical advice.
1. Getting Started
Creating your account
Go to alaga.app and click Create account. Enter your email and a password (minimum 6 characters). You will receive a verification email โ click the link inside to activate your account.
Setting up your profile
When you first log in, Alaga will ask for two names:
- Your name โ the caregiver's name (e.g., Michelle)
- Patient's name โ the person you are caring for (e.g., Erlinda)
These names appear in the app header and on your printed health reports. You can edit them anytime by clicking your profile avatar (the circle with your initial) in the top-right corner of the header.
๐ Both fields are completely optional. You can use a nickname, a first name only, initials, or leave them blank entirely โ whatever you're comfortable with. Alaga works perfectly without any names at all. You are in full control of how much identifying information you share.
Patient profile details
In the profile panel you can also add:
- Date of Birth โ used for age context in reports
- Blood Type โ (A+, Aโ, B+, Bโ, AB+, ABโ, O+, Oโ)
- Known Allergies โ free-text field for any allergy notes
All of these fields are optional. Fill in only what feels useful to you โ you can always add or update them later, or leave them blank. If you prefer to stay fully anonymous, simply skip all profile fields and go straight to logging health data.
Signing in
After verifying your email, sign in with your email and password. Alaga keeps you signed in across browser sessions. Click ๐ Lock in the top right to sign out at any time.
๐ก Forgot your password? Click "Forgot password?" on the sign-in screen and we'll send a reset link to your email.
2. Overview Dashboard
The Overview is your home screen โ a quick snapshot of everything important at a glance.
Summary tiles (top row)
Four clickable tiles show your key numbers. Click any tile to jump directly to that section:
- ๐ Active Medications โ opens Medicines tab
- ๐
Upcoming Events โ opens Appointments tab
- โค๏ธ Last BP Reading โ opens Vitals tab
- ๐ Symptoms Logged โ opens Symptoms tab
Upcoming Events
Shows your next 5 upcoming appointments and scheduled lab tests. Events happening today are highlighted in red with a โ ๏ธ warning.
Today's Medications โ grouped by status
Shows all medications scheduled for today, organized into three collapsible groups:
- Overdue โ past the scheduled time and not yet given
- Coming up โ scheduled later today (amber badge if due within the hour)
- Taken โ doses already marked as given
A progress bar at the top shows how many doses have been taken out of the total due today (e.g., "3 of 9 taken today ยท 2 overdue").
Medications set to Specific days show a row of day pills (M T W T F S S) so you can see the schedule at a glance โ today's day is highlighted in dark green.
Medications set to As needed show their current stock count (e.g., ๐ฆ 12 left) and appear in the Coming up group. Each time you mark one as given, the stock count automatically decreases by 1.
๐ฟ Tap any medication row or the checkbox to mark it as given. It moves to the Taken group with a โ. Tap again to undo. This syncs instantly โ family members checking the app from another device will see the same status in real time.
3. Vital Signs
Track your loved one's vital signs over time. Click + Log Vitals to add a new entry. You can record:
- ๐ฉบ Blood Pressure (mmHg)
- ๐ Heart Rate (bpm)
- ๐ก๏ธ Temperature (ยฐC)
- โ๏ธ Weight (kg)
- ๐ฉธ Blood Sugar (mg/dL)
- ๐จ Oโ Saturation (%)
- ๐ฃ Pain Level (1โ10)
- ๐ Observation notes
The latest reading for each vital is shown as a tile at the top of the Vitals tab. All past readings are listed below in chronological order.
4. Medicines
Keep a complete list of all medications. Click + Add Medicine to log a new one. Fields include:
- Medicine name and dose (e.g., Biogesic 500mg)
- Form โ Tablet, Capsule, Syrup, Injection, Drops, Patch, or Other
- Prescribed by โ doctor's name
- Repeat schedule โ choose one of four types (see below)
- Time โ when to take the medication (not shown for As needed)
- Food instructions (e.g., After meals)
- Start and end dates
- Refill reminder date โ Alaga will warn you โ ๏ธ when a refill is due
- Notes โ for anything not captured by the schedule fields above
Repeat Schedule types
Instead of typing a free-text schedule, you now choose one of four structured options:
- Every day โ taken at the same time every day (e.g., 7:00 PM)
- Specific days โ select which days of the week (e.g., Mon ยท Wed ยท Fri ยท Sun). A live summary shows "4ร per week." These medications show a day-pill row on the dashboard so the schedule is always visible at a glance.
- Every X days โ enter an interval (e.g., every 3 days) and a start date. Alaga calculates and shows the next dose date automatically.
- As needed โ for medications taken only when required (e.g., Paracetamol for pain). Instead of a time and refill date, you enter a current stock count and a remind-when-below threshold. Every time you mark a dose as given, the stock count decreases by 1 automatically.
๐ก Enter medication times in 12-hour format with AM/PM (e.g., 7:00 AM, 5:00 PM). This is what Alaga uses to determine whether a dose is overdue or coming up on the dashboard.
๐ฟ Already have medications saved? Existing medications without a repeat schedule selected will continue to work โ they're treated as "Every day" and their times still appear on the dashboard. You can edit them anytime to add the proper schedule type.

- Doctor's name and specialty
- Clinic or hospital

15. Push Notifications & Reminders
Alaga can send push notifications directly to your phone โ even when the app is closed โ to remind you about medications, upcoming appointments, and scheduled lab tests.
Enabling notifications
When you first log in, a banner appears at the bottom of the screen asking if you'd like to enable notifications. Tap Enable and allow the browser permission prompt.
If you dismissed the banner, you can re-enable notifications anytime:
- Tap your profile avatar (the circle with your initial in the top-right corner of the header)
- Scroll to the ๐ Push Notifications section at the bottom of the panel
- Tap Enable Notifications
๐ Medication reminders
Alaga sends a push notification around the time each medication is due. The reminder fires within ยฑ14 minutes of the scheduled time. Once you mark a dose as given, the reminder for that dose will not fire again.
Reminders respect the Repeat Schedule you set for each medication:
- Every day โ reminder fires daily at the scheduled time
- Specific days โ reminder fires only on the days you selected
- Every X days โ reminder fires only on the calculated dose days
- As needed โ no timed reminder (taken on demand, not on a schedule)
๐ก Time format matters! Enter medication times as 7:00 AM or 1:00 PM โ with a space before AM/PM. Incorrect formats (e.g., 7: 00 AM with a space after the colon) will not trigger reminders.
๐
Appointment reminders
For each upcoming appointment, Alaga sends two reminders:
- 24 hours before โ "Appointment Tomorrow: Dr. X at Clinic โ Date & Time"
- 1 hour before โ "Appointment in 1 Hour: Dr. X at Clinic โ Date & Time"
Once a reminder has been sent, it will not repeat โ even if the cron runs again during the same window.
๐ฌ Lab test reminders
For lab tests with status Scheduled, Alaga also sends two reminders โ 24 hours before and 1 hour before โ with the test name and laboratory.
Android notification settings
If you are on Android (especially Xiaomi/MIUI or Samsung), you may need to adjust a few settings to make sure notifications arrive reliably:
- Go to Settings โ Apps โ Chrome โ Notifications and turn on Show notifications, Lock screen notifications, and Allow sound
- Go to Settings โ Apps โ Alaga โ Notifications and enable Show on Lock screen and Display pop-up windows while running in the background
- Go to Settings โ Apps โ Chrome โ Battery and set to No restrictions
- Do the same for the Alaga app entry in your app list
๐ฟ Notifications are delivered via your browser's push service (Google FCM on Android, APNs on iPhone). They work even when Alaga is not open โ as long as your device has an internet connection.
